APEAL and the Parents' Committee
APEAL stands for l’Association des Parents d’Elèves de l’Athénée du Luxembourg.
We are a non-profilt organization that, since 1972, represents parents of students who attend Luxembourg's oldest secondary school, Athénée de Luxembourg, or as it is still popularly known in Luxembourgish, "De Kolléisch".

Since 2017, we also act as the Parents' Committee – the official representative body for parents at each secondary school in Luxembourg.
For more information on the representation of parents at schools in Luxembourg, visit www.elteren.lu or consult article 35 of the Law on the organisation of secondary schools (in French).
Every October, a common general assembly of APEAL and the Parents Committee is held where new APEAL leadership as well as new members of Parents Committee are elected. Anyone whose children attend Athénée can be elected as a member of the Parents Commitee, whether he or she is member of APEAL or not.
O
Our double role as parents' association and parent's committee also means that our activities have two dimensions:

As the APEAL association, we engage in social and cultural activities:
-
we are present at the welcome ceremony for new students in September, at the annual concert event (Kolleisch in Concert), porters ouvertes and IB Open Days, and fete de remise des diplomes
-
we award an annual students' prize
-
we co-organise the Charity run and a facultative IT course for students
-
we collaborate avec ONG Athénée
As the Parents Committee:
-
we are represented in different bodies and committees at our school, such as the disciplinary committee or education committee
-
we also regularly meet with the school administration in order to discuss problems or suggestions for improvement.
-
according to the law, the director is obliged to meet the committee whenever the latter requests it, and we are committed to using this privilege to the benefit or the both the students and the school.
